Our Founder
Prof.Dr. Mazhar ÖZMAN
Born on December 15, 1929, in Istanbul.
Graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1954.
Became a General Surgery Specialist in 1964, establishing pathology laboratories for the radiotherapy (oncology) and orthopedic clinics, as well as the pathology lab for the ophthalmology clinic.
Earned his Associate Professorship in General Surgery in 1972.
Founded the Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 1979 and became a full Professor of General Surgery in 1980, also serving as the faculty’s dean.
Retired voluntarily in 1980 following the closure of the faculty. In 1982, he contributed to the development of private hospital management and played a pioneering role in founding many hospitals.
While practicing his profession, his greatest hobby—flowers—was never neglected. On overseas trips, while his friends returned with electronic devices, Mr. Mazhar’s luggage was always filled with vegetable and flower seeds.
Noticing that the seeds he planted in his modest greenhouse germinated slowly and with low rates, he became curious about what was missing. This curiosity opened new horizons for him and Turkish agriculture.
Mr. Mazhar said:
“One day, we were in Switzerland. There were very beautiful, colorful flowers. We held a flowerpot, but it was very light. We asked if it was soil. They said it wasn’t soil, it was peat. We brought it to Turkey and tested it in our greenhouse behind the house. Within a week, the flower seeds we planted had sprouted.”
Following this experiment, Mr. Mazhar decided to introduce this product to Turkey and became the first to bring peat to the country. This marked the planting of the first seeds of Doktor Tarsa. The seed planted by Mr. Mazhar has since grown into a great tree with deep roots.
We remember him with gratitude and reverence for his contributions to Turkish agriculture.

Doktor Tarsa from 1987 to Today
The First Seed is Sown
In December 1987, the decision was made to establish a company in Istanbul. While searching for a suitable name, the inspiration came from the founder, Prof. Dr. Mazhar ÖZMAN, and his passion for medicine and agriculture. As a result, the company was named DOKTOR TARSA.
The concept of peat is not clearly understood by the media.
When we first introduced our products, newspapers ran headlines like “Turkey is importing soil,” only realizing much later that what they called soil was actually peat.
Our First Fertilizer Arrives
Another major gap for our farmers who were newly introduced to peat was the lack of professional fertilizers. To meet this need, we began importing water-soluble fertilizers in 1994.
Soil Demands Seed
To bring these fertile soils together with certified and high-quality seeds, a new company named TASACO joined our group.
We Introduce Turkish Farmers to Automation Systems
We add automation devices required for computer-controlled irrigation and precise fertilization to our sales portfolio in Turkey.
Ali Behzat Özman
Following the passing of our founder, Mr. Mazhar Özman, the leadership baton was passed on to his son, Ali Behzat Özman.

Doktor Tarsa’s capabilities point to a leading infrastructure in the agricultural sector, with over 40,000 m² of production and storage space across four strategic locations. We demonstrate our strength and capacity with a daily packaging capacity of 1,000 metric tons, 100,000 metric tons of storage space, annual production of 60,000 metric tons of NPK WS, 10,000 metric tons of specialty granular fertilizers, and 80,000 liters of liquid fertilizer.
