Photosynthesis is the most critical energy process on Earth, enabling the conversion of solar energy into nutrients in plants. Therefore, plant productivity directly depends on sunlight efficiency. Iron (Fe) plays a key role in this process as it is essential for the synthesis of chlorophyll, the pigment responsible for capturing sunlight.

A pale green or yellowing appearance in plants is a clear sign of iron deficiency, indicating the plant is under stress. In early stages, the veins remain green while the areas between them turn yellow. At advanced stages, the entire leaf may become chlorotic. While several iron chelates are available on the market to correct this issue, Ferrostrene provides a superior solution thanks to its low application dose and high efficiency.

Most Effective Form: EDDHA Ortho-Ortho Isomer

Ferrostrene is a high-quality EDDHA iron chelate, with 80% of its total 6% EDDHA content in the ortho-ortho isomer form. This composition makes Ferrostrene highly effective even in alkaline soils (pH ≥ 8).

Its microgranular formulation dissolves quickly in water without dusting and enables rapid iron uptake, helping to swiftly correct iron deficiency symptoms in plants.

Role of Iron (Fe) in Plants:

  • Essential for biological nitrogen fixation

  • Required for protein synthesis

  • Plays a role in chlorophyll production and oxygen transport

  • Involved in the plant respiration enzyme system

  • Enhances leaf thickness, nutrient absorption, and overall yield

  • Deepens leaf color and increases solar energy utilization

Common Causes of Iron Deficiency:

  • Excessive use of phosphorus fertilizers

  • High levels of manganese (Mn) in soil

  • Cold and waterlogged soil conditions

  • High lime (calcium carbonate) content in soil

  • Use of lime-rich fertilizers or direct lime application

Note: High pH soils significantly limit iron uptake.

Ferrostrene Application Recommendations:

  • Apply in early spring for trees; before summer for citrus.

  • In garden and ornamental plants, apply at planting or with the start of vegetative growth.

  • Visible improvement in new leaf color can often be seen within the first week after application.

  • Apply directly to the soil dissolved in water, or via surface irrigation, injection, or drip irrigation.

  • Can be applied foliar when necessary.

  • In orchards and vineyards, apply around the canopy projection area of the tree/vine and irrigate after application.

  • Do not mix with products containing copper (Cu) or lead (Pb).

  • Low doses via drip irrigation are highly effective.

  • In winter crops, Ferrostrene supports plants under stress and promotes vigor.

Importance of the Ortho-Ortho Isomer:

The ortho-ortho EDDHA isomer forms the strongest chemical bond with iron, making it the most stable and effective iron chelate in high pH soils. Unlike the less effective ortho-para or para-para isomers, the ortho-ortho chelation ensures maximum availability of iron for plant uptake, setting Ferrostrene apart as a premium solution for iron deficiency correction.

Recommended Dosage
Crop / Plant Type Dosage
Seedlings 10 – 20 g / tree
Young fruit-bearing trees 20 – 50 g / tree
Mature fruit trees (normal yield) 80 – 100 g / tree
Mature fruit trees (high yield) 100 – 150 g / tree
Citrus trees (large) 150 – 200 g / tree
Vineyards (per vine) 10 – 20 g / vine
Ornamental plants (roses, carnations, etc.) 500 g / decare
Strawberries, Raspberries 100 – 150 g / decare
Annual/Perennial flowers, potted plants 600 g / decare
Vegetables (greenhouse & open field) 250 – 350 g / decare
Field crops 250 – 350 g / decare

Application Method:
Ferrostrene can be applied via drip irrigation and other irrigation systems by following the recommended dosage guidelines provided above. Alternatively, the recommended dose per tree can be applied directly to the soil by digging a circular trench (15–20 cm deep) around the tree’s canopy projection. The product may be applied either dry or diluted in water into the trench, which is then covered with soil and watered. The product is absorbed through the roots and distributed throughout the plant.
